What is Positive Behavior Support?

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a school-wide behavioral system of both systematic and individualized strategies for achieving valuable social and learning results that will prevent problematic behaviors. Brick Mill Elementary began the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program in 2003.

What is our Goal?

The goal of the Brick Mill's PBS program is to minimize problematic behaviors by teaching students how to manage themselves appropriately.

What are our School-Wide Expectations?

During the developmental and implementation stages of our PBS program, a core team of Brick Mill staff members developed three key school-wide expectations that all Brick Mill students are expected to follow:

  • Be Responsible
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Ready.

What is our Pledge?

Today I expect to be,
the best possible me,
Responsible, Respect and Ready,
Brick Mill Dolphins are all three!

What are the Expectations throughout the building?

During Arrival/ Dismissal Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:
  • Use quiet voices at all times.
  • Go directly to your designated area.
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
  • Wait calmly in your designated area.
In the Bathroom, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:
  • Enter and exit calmly using quiet voices.
  • Use equipment properly (This includes the toilet, sink, towel and soap dispensers).
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
  • Take care of bathroom business quickly.
  • Report problems to an adult.
  • Return quietly and calmly to your designated area.
On the Bus, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to remember:

Your ride is all about Safety.
S - Sit and stay in assigned seat at all times.
A - Act responsible and ready at all times.
F - Feet, hands and objects to yourself and inside the bus.
E - Emergency and railroad tracks - voices off.
T - Talk quietly to your neighbor.
Y - Your driver is the leader.

In the Cafeteria, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:
  • Enter and exit calmly using quiet voices.
  • Keep hands, feet and food to yourself.
  • Keep all areas clean.
  • Place all garbage in trash cans.
  • Stay seated with feet under the table and hands on top the table.
In the Cafetorium /Multipurpose Area, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:

During assemblies:
  • Enter calmly using quiet voices.
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
  • Sit flat facing forward.
  • Respect the speaker by turning voice off.
  • Clap and laugh at appropriate times.
  • Exit calmly using quiet voices.
In the Hallway, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:
  • Use quiet voices and walk at all times.
  • Go directly to your destination.
  • Stay to the right.
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
  • Stop for passing adults
On the Playground, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:
  • Use equipment properly.
  • Help others by taking turns and including others.
  • Play safe and respect others' space.
  • Be a good sport.
  • Line up quickly and quietly at the end of recess.
In the Pod Area, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:
  • Use quiet voices and walk at all times.
  • Respect others working in the area.
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
  • Use computer and furniture properly.
  • Keep area clean.
During Related Arts, Brick Mill Dolphins are expected to:
  • Listen and follow directions.
  • Use equipment and supplies properly.
  • Follow the specific rules for each activity.
  • Keep hands and feet to yourself.
  • Be a good sport.
What are the Rewards?

As an incentive for following the Brick Mill expectations, students receive "Dolphin Gold" tickets. Students receiving "Dolphin Gold" tickets have an opportunity to enter their tickets in the dolphin treasure box. Each morning, a student's name from each grade level is drawn from the box and those students receive a reward. Rewards may include but are not limited to school supplies, restaurant coupons and special time with a teacher or friend.
