It’s that time of year again – time for the selection of the Appoquinimink School District Teacher of the Year. Our current building TOY at BME is Tanya Heyse…thank you for a job well done!
Below are the procedures for nomination and selection of the Teacher of the Year for the district. In the selection process, emphasis needs to placed on finding the best representative/spokesperson for the teaching profession and for the Appoquinimink School District.

Candidates must meet the following state criteria:

1.The candidate must be a teacher who teaches classes. (Librarians may be considered if they have classes for which they can be observed in instruction. Counselors, nurses, paraprofessionals, and therapists are not eligible.)

2.The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience, preferably in our district.

3.The candidate must be fully certified in the area he/she teaches.

4.Teachers recognized as the Appoquinimink School District and/or Building Teacher of the Year within the past three (3) years are not eligible.
Below you will find the district timeline. Each of the district’s deadlines must be met if we are to meet the State deadline. There are no disruptions during testing weeks.

1/25/10 – 2/19/10 Solicitation of nominations
2/24/10 – 3/05/10 Selection of building TOY
3/08/10 – 3/30/10 Preparation of building TOY paperwork
3/08/10 – 3/30/10 Building TOY photos taken
3/30/10 TOY paperwork due in curriculum office
3/29/10 – 4/16/10 Building TOY classroom observations
3/29/10 – 4/16/10 Committee review of building TOY paperwork
4/19/10 Building TOY panel conversation
4/22/10 TOY Dinner and announcement of district TOY
